View Full Version : Column Shift Buckets?

Just wondering if anyone's ever done or seen a bucket with column shift. Given the limited space we're working in it seems like a perfect fit. (pun intended)

The more I plan things the more I keep coming back to the concept. It sure seems feasible to me in theory, but does anyone have any practical experience with it?

I have seen at least two buckets with column shifters, but they really don't look that great. A couple of years ago I saw one with a side shifter that was mounted on the non-functioning left door panel, a friend of mine told me that it is a cable operated shifter that drag racers use.

I mounted the shifter under the seat on Shirley's car. Just the knob and T handle sticks out and it shifts from side to side rather than forward and backward. Makes for a nice open floor and works great.

There's also this: http://www.retrotekspeed.com/product.php?pk=74

It's a true push-button shifter. It mounts to any trans and lets you change gears at the push of a button. It's pricey, but hey.....money grows on trees right? (just not in my yard) :D

Union City Lyle's car had a column shift. I thought I had a picture of the interior but I couldn't find it. You can barely see the shift knob above his shoulder in this pic. Lyle was a great guy...
