Hey folks, I am building a Ford 9 inch rear for my bucket from basically scratch. I have axle tubes, center section, and big bearing ends....I have a fully welded 23T Spirit frame and I wanted to know the width of the completed rear end I should build it to. Its going to be used mostly for drag racing and its going to be a very beefy rearend. Any thoughts? Thanks Terry

Terry - I have a 23 from Spirit with a 10 bolt - if I am not mistaken - it is 48" backing plate to backing plate and was 54 1/4 from outside of drum to outside of drum. (took measurements a few weeks back before ordering rims/tires).

Very cool - setting up a 23 for the track - are you running open or a semi funny car type cage like a roadster pro mod ?

48" backing plate to backing plate is what we use. You can go wider but not less.

Spirit uses anywhere from 48" to 54". We have used a couple of 9 inches and they were 56".
